I think someone is trying to scam me what should I do?
I recently saw a posting asking for people who want to be tutors, to get a job, well tutoring. Well I talked to them and then they said they would like to have a face to face interview I agreed and this is where things get suspicious. They want to meet me at a Starbucks, and want me to bring my S.S card and my drivers license along with a few other things. When I asked if they had an office they said no. They said the name of the company is Aspire Tutoring Service. I looked it up online and couldn’t find it. I did a reverse phone look up on the number I called and it couldn’t be found. So, im almost 100% sure this is a identity theft scam. They want me to meet them in 4 days. Should I tell the cops whats going on? What should i do. Oh and don’t worry i don’t want to be a English tutor. I’m a math and science man.
It may be a good idea to talk to the police and see if anyone has filed a complaint against the company. You can go to the interview to feel things out if you like without giving out any personal information. Some home based businesses operate in this manner just as someone else suggested. It also wouldn’t be wrong of you to ask about the companies clients and if you can possibly speak to some of them. Explain your concern about identity theft. If they are a legit company offering a legit service, they will have NOTHING to hide. Good luck, at least you went about this the smart way without taking any chances…you can never be too sure in this day and age.
