what to do when your marriage has been literally destroyed by identity theft?mines have. my husband and i split up because he thinks that i ruined his identity and credit by taking out loans and credit cards that i didnt do. ive been doing my own investigations, and the person who took out the loan is connected to a data breach that he and i were victims of.the loan is also an internet scam site that im also having investigated.he doesnt believe that there was no breach and that i somehow am the mastermind of all this. i also found out that my own family member stole some of his information to buy food once i moved from that address. what are the steps that i need to take?can i present this to court?i want to prove to my husband that i am innocent.it seems like a lot to do but im willing, i love him and our kids.
you need to first notify all the credit bureaus about the ID thefts for you and your husband, put a lock on your credit/SSN. than go to the police and inform them that you know someone has stolen your ID and press charges. than you need to call all these credit card companies and loan places and inform them of the ID theft and instruct them to close the account immediately. you are going to have to provide the credit bureaus of copies of the police report. you are going to have to keep them inform and you can also ask them how to stop ID fraud in the future. but this is a process that will take a lot of time on your part.
